To spread the word about hazardous oil tanker traffic on BC's coast, we used a medium that finds its way into the hands of every Canadian for free: the $1 coin. Cling decals simulating the effects of a spill were applied to 450, 000 coins. The project collected thousands of online petition signatures, and was covered by every major media outlet in the country.
The Dogwood Initiative is a leading land-reform organization in BC whose goal is to make BC the global model for sustainable land reform. Since their launch in 1999 they have mobilized thousands of British Columbians around sustainable land reform issues. Their current initiative, NoTankers, aims to stop oil tanker traffic from entering BC’s fragile coastal waters.
